1. They should be a heavy enough weight that they protect your feet and have thick soles – they shouldn’t be so heavy that your legs get exhausted after a flight of stairs. I know it builds leg muscles, technically, but huffing and puffing while you catch your breath is a bit odd at the workplace.

2. They should be a style that can take a few bumps and kicks, and these scuffs won’t look obvious. A worn leather is great in a neutral colour – think brown, navy blue or forest green.

3. The higher the boot, the better – an ankle boot will keep your socks dry and look good with any cut of pant leg. Even if you’re rockin’ the super Bieber skinny jean, tuck them into the boot and keep the laces wide open.

Last summer in New York, there was not a male in sight who wasn’t sporting cuffed pants. Or cuffed shorts (which is whole other story). Cuffed pants was a statement last summer – this summer, it’s a staple.

Check out Ryan Gosling in Thailand, having rolled small cuffs on the bottom of his jeans. Paired with rugged ankle boots, he doesn’t look half bad.

The combination of greys with the warm brown boots looks sharp, as well as his nifty nap sack which probably carries his vintage copy of Gulliver’s Travels and soap that smells like brown sugar and tobacco. (I just made that fragrance up – copyright!)

It could be this layered look. A sharp leather motorcycle jacket paired with a hoodie and a messenger bag (brown and black again!), this look is casual, comfortable and well suited for weekend errands.

To create this look, pair a Belstaff jacket with an Ernest Sewn hoodie, Joe jeans and John Varvatos boots and a bag. Done and done.

What we don’t get is the hat – so, does he wear that under his helmet? Or did he bring it along to hide his helmet hair?

I had a lot of “Sorry, buddy” moments while being forced to watch the Golden Globes last night. Here are my two highlights – because I’m also not spending half my day digging for pictures of bad outfits.

1. The Velveteen Rabbit. Not then, not now.

2. A red smoking jacket. Not at this event. No, no, no. Not for your step sister’s wedding – not for your company Christmas party. No.

Did you watch that last night? My wife made me. She just had it on and consistently reminded how many hours we have spent watching hockey and football over the week, which was a passive way of saying “If you change the channel, we’re having microwave dinners for the next week.” Fine. So I suffered through it – and there was some good and there was some bad.

Here’s what I think was some of the good:

1. Colin Firth – a nice, clean look with a pop from the bow tie. Also appreciating the white pocket square and how it is folded.

2. B.Pitty – a three piece AND a cane. I would not have done a three piece if I was hobbling around. Juts add a pocket watch and he looks like he found a George Clooney time machine and traveled back a hundred years to Cockney, where there are still men only clubs they can laugh at each other’s precious jokes all day. BUT the point is, it’s a great suit.

3. Rob Lowe – Yes, he is too tanned. But again with the tight pocket square, and appreciating his tie.

We’re dressing guys in tuxes and suits like these for weddings consistently – if you’re in the market, stop by. We can’t make you as tanned as Rob Lowe, but we can get you that tie.
